갤러리노마드는 지난 4년 동안의 전시를 통해서 예술이 우리 사회에 기여하는 다양한 방법들에 대해서 생각하고 예술과 예술가의 사회적 가치와 책임에 관한 담론을 담으려 노력하였다. 이와 같은 노력들은 최근에 벌어지는 많은 사회적 이슈를 어떻게 극복해 나갈 것인가에 대한 선제적 대응이었는지도 모른다. 지금 우리 사회는 불평등, 감염병, 급격한 기후변화, 세대간의 갈등, 이념의 논쟁 등 많은 위기 상황들로 인한 스트레스를 받고 있으며, 소셜네트워크, 인터넷 플렛폼 기반의 각종 포털 등 다양한 소통의 문화가 만들어지고 있는 반면, 상대적으로 디지털 커뮤니티 문화로 부터 소외되고 고통받는 디지털 약자들도 매년 수천, 수만명씩 늘어나고 있는 상황에 직면해 있다. 우리 사회는 산업화와 정보화로 빠르게 달려오면서 흑백논리의 이분법적 사고에 강요되어 왔고 이는 주체적 행동의 제약으로 이어졌으며 결과적으로 우리 사회구조의 주된 오류가 되기도 하였다. 우리는 이러한 사회 변화 속에서 개인과 공동체, 사회와 제도의 충돌에서 해결의 실마리를 찾아야 하는 전면적 위기상황에 놓여 있으며, 문화예술의 공공성에 관해서 깊이 생각해 보고 사회공동체가 공유해 가는 방법들에 대해서도 고민해 보아야 한다. 많은 예술가들의 인문적 사고의 실험과 작업을 통해 얻어진 데이터는 복합적인 사회문제에 대안적인 자료를 제시할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 인류에게 훨씬 풍부한 삶의 질과 근본적인 가치의 전환을 가져올 거라 확신한다.

Through exhibitions over the past four years, Gallery Nomad has tried to provide various ways that art contributes to our society, and to make discourses on the social values and responsibilities of art and artists. These efforts may have been a proactive approach to response over how to overcome many social issues occurring in recent years. Now our society is under stress due to inequality, infectious diseases, rapid climate change, conflict of generation, ideological disputes, and many crisis situations. Various communicative cultures are created such as social network and diverse portals based on Internet platform, whereas we are also confronting the situation that digitally excluded people who are marginalized and suffered from digital community culture are increasing every year rapidly. While our society swiftly rushes to industrialization and informatization, we have been forced to think in dichotomous way, which regards everything as black and white. This led to restrictions on subjective behavior, and as a result, it has become a major error in our social structure. In such social changes, we are in a crisis situation where we must find clues to resolve the conflicts between individuals and communities, society and institutions. We need to think deeply about the publicity of culture and arts and ponder about the ways the social community can share. It is certain that the data obtained through the experiments and works of many artists on humanistic thinking will not only suggest an alternative data to complex social problems, but also bring a much richer quality of life and fundamental value transformation to mankind.
